It begins with an overview of healthy versus unhealthy relationships, introducing the concept of boundaries as essential for safety and comfort.
The presentation differentiates between hard (non-negotiable) and soft (flexible) boundaries and covers various types including physical, emotional, time, digital, material, and intellectual. Effective communication strategies for asserting boundaries are discussed, alongside the importance of recognizing and responding to boundary violations, subtle manipulative behaviors, and red flags in relationships. It highlights the traits of healthy relationships, such as mutual respect and trust, and contrasts them with traits of unhealthy relationships. The Empowerment & Self-Defense Training is designed to equip participants with the knowledge and skills necessary to navigate and counter violence. It focuses on understanding inequality, identifying violence behaviors, setting boundaries, and executing both verbal and physical self-defense techniques. The course emphasizes a trauma-informed approach, prioritizing safety, empowerment, and participant engagement. Key components include interactive activities, boundary-setting exercises, and practical self-defense skills, all aimed at building confidence and competence in handling difficult or dangerous situations.

This training will provide an introduction to restorative justice and restorative practices, specifically circles. A circle is a highly structured and intentional space designed to promote connection, understanding, and dialogue in a group. Circles can be used to address harm/conflict, build community, provide support/accountability, and share perspectives. Participants will (1) learn about different types of restorative practices, (2) participate in a community building circle, and (3) have the option to debrief their circle experience and discuss application of restorative practices in their community or field of study.

Upon receiving a request, the staff of the Equity Office are equipped to create and conduct a workshop tailored specifically to address the requirements of the attendees. The educational themes that can be covered in these workshops encompass a wide range, including awareness of sexual misconduct and violence, bystander intervention strategies, understanding of consent, and recognition of personal boundaries. It is important to note that requests for training sessions should be made at least two weeks prior to the desired event date.
